Preparation and safety of p-tert-butylphenol

Preparation method: phenol and isobutene were cooked in the presence of zinc chloride or tert-butanol was used as catalyst with sulfuric acid at 100℃. The crude product is recrystallized with ethanol to obtain the desired product.

Safety: The acute transoral LD50 of rats is 0.56-3. 5g/kg, and the percutaneous LD50 of rabbits is 7.5g/kg. Under the closed condition, the product was applied on the rabbit skin for 1 day and found to have irritating effect. The skin contact test of 1% Vaseline was done on human body. No irritation was found after two days of application.
